18 fine evaders nabbed

Eighteen fine evaders with a combined 1132 outstanding warrants were identified after a roadblock operation in Chirnside Park.
On Tuesday 20 February, warrants valued at more than $375,000 were detected, after the joint Sheriff’s Office and Victoria Police operation.
The initiative was designed at located fine evaders and encouraging them to take steps to clear their outstanding debts.
Sheriff of Victoria, Brendan Facey, said the the operation should serve as a reminder that the Sheriff’s Office can be anywhere at any time.
“This operation was designed to find those people who are deliberately trying to avoid paying their fines, while minimising any inconvenience to other motorists,” he said.
Payment was received from 10 people on the day to finalise 40 warrants worth more than $12,000.
Five drivers had their wheels clamped and were required to arrange payment to have the clamps removed.
A further six drivers, with 74 warrants worth over $25,000, were notified that their driver licence or vehicle registration would be suspended if they did not arrange to pay within seven days.
