Connect with free advice and support when you need it most

Accessing mental health support can feel overwhelming, especially during times of stress, anxiety or emotional uncertainty. Knowing where to turn and what options are available is not always clear.

Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (PHN) wants the community to know that help is available – confidential and easy to access through Medicare Mental Health.

Medicare Mental Health is designed to be a supportive first point of contact for anyone unsure about where to seek mental health or wellbeing support. The service has trained professionals who take the time to listen, understand individual needs and discuss personal goals. From there, they help guide callers toward the most suitable information, services and supports available locally or online from the comfort of your own home.

This service is for anyone experiencing anxiety, feeling low, stressed or overwhelmed, as well as carers who may be supporting a family member, friend or loved one and are unsure how best to help. It also provides valuable information for health professionals seeking to better understand local mental health services and referral options within their community.

Support offered through Medicare Mental Health includes clear guidance on understanding mental health and wellbeing options, assistance in identifying the most appropriate services for individual circumstances, and referrals to local and accessible supports. The service also promotes collaborative care planning, working alongside care teams to ensure people receive the right support at the right time.

Importantly, Medicare Mental Health helps remove some of the barriers that often prevent people from reaching out. A Medicare card or referral is not required; there is no cost to call and no judgement. It is about meeting people where they are and helping them take the next step forward, whatever that may look like for them.
