Ruth Cauchi and Tracey Haye have a chat to Parliamentary Secretary For Disabilities and Carers Senator Jan McLucas and Federal La Trobe MP Laura Smythe. 95217

PARENTS of children with autism had the chance to talk about what the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) would mean for them during a meeting with Senator Jan McLucas last week.
Sen McLucas joined La Trobe MP Laura Smyth to meet with local parents and carers of children with autism at Coonara Community House in Ferntree Gully.
Parents shared their experiences of raising children with autism and what the NDIS would mean to them.
Ms Smythe said the meeting provided an important opportunity to talk to parents and said the stories they heard would be taken back to Parliament House to help inform future policy decisions.
“We want to continue supporting parents and carers of children with disability through the NDIS, so it’s important for me to hear first-hand the experiences of local people,” Ms Smyth said.
Sen McLucas said the government was working hard to deliver the NDIS.
“We know that people with a disability, their families and carers will start to benefit from the NDIS in five locations throughout the country.”
