OLD has met new in a futuristic drawing at the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum as part of the Drawn In event by The Big Draw campaign.
This campaign for drawing has seen an imaginary place drawn by Yarra Ranges Council Arts, Culture and Heritage manager Greg Box, for an audience of community members in the Glasshouse and Harvest Café in the museum.
The piece spanning across seven by two meters of glass aims to capture this year’s theme of Draw Tomorrow.
Mr Box said it only seemed fit for him to take part in the event with his long background in drawing.
“This isn’t just an imaginary place, it kind of matches up the idea of the old with the new,” he said.
“Some of the references are to sort of historical elements of architecture with newer strange shapes – some would describe them as Dr Seuss like.
“I guess it’s the sense of a very dynamic place.”
Mr Box said the Yarra Ranges Council has built a lot of cultural facilities and through engagement with these events and places it makes people feel better as a community and he was keen to further get involved.
“I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to practise and help promote engagement in the arts in the Yarra Ranges,” he said.
“The idea of engaging in your arts culture is really good for making great places, they are the places you want to live in, they are creative and dynamic, and anything that helps promote that is a good thing,”
The drawing will be on show for the next couple of weeks at the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum.
The Big Draw commenced on 1 October and will be running through to 3 November.
