Sheppard is bringing a fun, energy-filled show to Mount Evelyn.

The Brisbane-based band will play the York on Lilydale on Saturday 6 October as part of their Watching the Sky tour.

“This will be my inaugural trip. I’m very excited about it,” George Sheppard told the Mail.

“There’s a couple of places in Australia that I’ve never been.”

He’s not sure he’ll get much time to explore the area though.

“Usually 90 per cent of the time it’s quickly in and out,” he said.

“We got to visit Paris – for two hours. We saw the Eiffel tower through the window of van.”

Joining George in the band are siblings Amy and Emma Sheppard, Jay Bovino, Michael Butler and Dean Gordon.

“This particular album we’ve tried to build from the ground up to be a live show,” George said.

“We learnt a lot of lessons from Bombs Away about what works for a crowd.”

That means “soaring guitars” and “epic synths”.

“I think part of our strong suit is our live show,” he said.

“That’s really where we make our fans.”

Sheppard are best known for the catchy Geronimo.

“As much as we love Geronimo I don’t feel like it’s our best song,” George said.

“It’s definitely the biggest song that we’ve had.”

He hopes fans will come along and end up singing along to plenty of other tunes.

“There’s just something about a Sheppard show,” he said.

“We don’t sit there and go ‘we need to have fun here’.

“We just really enjoy our job.

“We put everything we have into it energy-wise and the audience feeds off it.”

Opening for Sheppard will be acoustic guitarist and singer Jacob Lee, who George said had insightful lyrics.
