Hawks fall short

Baynes Park’s new pitch got its first work out from the Fast 9s.

With the first day washout last week, Monbulk travelled to South Belgrave to play a one-dayer.

Batting first, Monbulk got off to a solid start of 2/66 off 20 overs thanks to a handy partnership between Braden Taeuber (60) and TJ Utting (25).

With the platform laid, some big hitting at the end of the innings by J Fraser (32) and D Maher (24) got the total up to 9/194.

The Hawks couldn’t get the job done with the ball, with South Belgrave chasing the total down with one over to go.

S Cosstick was the pick of the bowlers with 5/22.

In other games, the twos had their first win of the season, with B Martin (53) and K Storey (57) among the runs.

The thirds lost a close one and the fours had a forfeit.

In junior news, Baynes Park’s new pitch got its first work out by the Fast 9s, the under-12s got a win at home away from home Silvan, and work is progressing well at the Monbulk High School.
