Applause for volunteers

Fernlea staff member Catherine with volunteers Michelle and Anne.

This year’s National Volunteer Week theme is ‘making a world of difference’ – something that Fernlea says its volunteers absolutely do.

The week this year runs from 20 to 24 May and is an annual celebration that acknowledges the generous contribution of the nation’s volunteers.

To celebrate, Fernlea developed a complete suite of online training to support volunteers in all roles.

Based on a series of modules, the training has been developed in response to feedback from its volunteers, to provide greater support and to enhance the volunteer experience.

Fernlea provides support for people with a life-limiting illness through day respite services in Emerald and Berwick, as well as in-home care services in Melbourne’s east and south east.

They have more than 60 volunteers who work in a variety of roles.

They help to provide support for respite guests and work in the Fernlea Shop of Opportunities in Emerald, which serves thousands of customers each year and raises funds to support Fernlea’s community work.
