Fifty thousand robocalls were sent out across the Monbulk electorate on the night of Monday 10 April, as part of a concentrated campaign from the CFMEU that aims to help the embattled Heyfield timber mill.
The campaign targeted three electorates across Victoria, seats the CFMEU deems to be marginal, with around 150,000 unsolicited calls delivered in total on the night.
Deputy Premier and Monbulk MP James Merlino was targeted in the CFMEU robocalls, which told voters the Victorian Government could save the mill by increasing its allocation of timber and that Mr Merlino had “done nothing” to help save the mill.
