IT was another great day in a superb season for the Sherbrooke Rangers Rockets in the last Under 8 game of the season at Menzies Creek on Saturday.
Up against Healesville, Isaac Van Rossen, Alan Damen and Chris Heckenberg all scored in the first half to go in three nil at half time. The second half was scoreless and Matthew Perera’s good midfield work earned him one of the Rockets Player of the Match awards, the other going to Shaun Allen, who was too sick to play, but came anyway to cheer his team on.
Following this at Menzies Creek was a very entertaining game between two Sherbrooke Rangers Under 10 teams – the top of the table Bears and the Pumas.
The Pumas put up a great show in the first half and were able to go in nil-all at half time – a great result against the Bears.
In the second half, the class of the Bears came through and they were able to score three goals. However, both teams played well and fought the game out to the end to draw warm applause form the spectators.
In an away game, Under 12 Sherbrooke Rangers Stingrays went to Eltham trying to defeat the Eltham Eagles, a team they had never beaten. And win they did…. 3-1!
Eltham drew first blood to lead one-nil but just before half time the Stingrays levelled and then controlled the second half to win convincingly in the end. The backline of Jacob Maloney, Justin Williams and Kirk Bullock all played great games to keep the team in the game and then help feed the ball to the forwards as the Stingrays leapt ahead.
