Sixty plus and going strong

HILLS senior citizens are celebrating life after 60 this week.
Proving life isn’t over at 60, senior citizens across Victoria will get out and enjoy a bumper week of entertainment.
The week-long 2006 Seniors Festival started on Sunday and promises to be full of fun and laughter.
Seniors are encouraged to get out, be active and ‘go for life’.
There are hundreds of free or low cost events, forum and activities as well as free public transport for Seniors Card holders.
Knox seniors are in for a treat as tap dance troupe The Timesteppers puts on a fantastic display of talent at the Boronia Progress Hall on Tuesday, 10 October.
Coogee Nursing Home has organised the afternoon of fun and excitement featuring The Timesteppers followed by a parade of yesteryear fashion from the Colonial 1880s to the burgeoning 1950s.
Seniors can also enjoy the baritone voice of Richard Thomas on Friday at the Knox Community Art Centre.
City of Knox mayor David Cooper said the festival is a great opportunity for the council to acknowledge the value older residents bring to the community.
“The range of activities is terrific,” he said. “What a great week it will be for all.”
Meanwhile, Shire of Yarra Ranges seniors can join in an expo held at Swinburne University in Lilydale and learn more about services, clubs and activities available in the shire.
Seniors can pick up show bags at the expo along with discounts to local attractions and enjoy some scrumptious afternoon tea.
For more information about Knox Seniors Festival call Bruce Griffin on 9298 8518 or to find out more about the Yarra Ranges expo call Marg O’Brien on 1300 368 333.
