THE Upwey-Tecoma division four pennant side travelled to Blackburn on Saturday and came home with a great morale boosting win.
With a ‘Hills challenge’ win already under their belts, combined with a 26 shots win for the first day of pennant competition, this is the best start to the bowls season for four years.
Taking an early lead after being asked to play on a synthetic surface, Upwey “turned the tables” on their Blackburn opponents to go into the half-time break with an overall lead of 12 shots.
Back on the green Trevor Robertson and his team dominated play on their rink to easily account for their opponents with a 15 shots win.
Robin Southern showed that his rink could be in for a good season after recording a 12 shots win, while Tom Perry ably supported by Stuart Allen along with Peter Kornow and Mick Gale, making their season’s debut in his rink, showed that his future opponents throughout this season will face stiff opposition.
