Former Test spinner Higgs to speak club

FORMER Australian Test leg-spinner and National selector Jim Higgs will be giving a talk at Emerald Cricket Club in early November.
Emerald president Rod Smith said the club was thrilled to have such a cricketing identity visit the club.
Not only will Jim be speaking in the evening, but also Jim suggested that he also attends practice and pass on his advice to the playing group.
Higgs captured 66 Test wickets at an average of 31.16 runs with a best of 7/143 while for Victoria he took 264 wickets at an average of 30.5 runs.
Higgs was the leggie to watch before Shane Warne came on the scene. It is rumoured that he even taught Warne the ‘flipper’. Having had a successful series against England and the cream of the West Indies he took on the role of National selector overseeing many of the great players that are in the Australian team today.
Smith said that there was great enthusiasm at Emerald Club this year and hoped that it translated into a successful and exciting year for the club. Experienced players such as captain Quenten Lucas, opening bat Mark Alenson and express bowlers Clinton Marsh and Daniel Porter will be supported by an exciting group of younger players now entering the senior side. The outlook for the club, said Smith, was very encouraging.
Emerald Cricket Club welcomes new players, both junior and senior to the club. Practice is held at Chandler Reserve on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Inquiries about the club and the Jim Higgs evening (a small charge will be applicable) can be directed to Rod Smith on 0407 555 664 or Chris Alenson 59683040.
