TELEPHONE banking will soon take on a new meaning in Ferntree Gully.
A combined payphone and automatic teller machine (ATM) will be installed in Mountain Gate Shopping Centre in Ferntree Gully in the new year.
Knox City Council has entered into a 12-month lease with ANZ to install the facility outside the butcher shop east of Mountain Gate Drive, where it will replace a normal payphone.
The facility has an ATM on one side and Telstra phone on the other and will incorporate anti-theft features.
The concept had been successfully implemented throughout the UK.
The council will review the system after a 12-month trial period beginning Monday, 1 January.
