Jones surges past the field

By Dennis Fuller
HIGH scoring was the order of the day in perfect conditions at the Emerald Golf Course on Saturday.
Peter Jones, showing that playing early in the morning is a good thing, tore the course apart. The rating was again set at 67.
His net 61 from a handicap of 25 saw him easily win the Monthly Medal and the C Grade.
Dennis Fuller, with the advantage of his 15 handicap, fell over the line in B Grade to take out that competition.
Mango Maguire, fresh back from a sabbatical, used the usual sweet swing to card a net 66 while playing off his meagre handicap of 5.
Many players bettered their handicaps but failed to get the top gongs for various, questionable reasons. They were Steve Miller 66, Chip Litchfield 67, Ben Balfour and Brian McCoy with 68 and Ron Wilson, Stuart Courtney and Greg Horrocks all managed 69.
Daniel Hunt won nearest the pins on the 7th and the 13th, Graeme Fergus triumphed on the 12th while Geoffrey Isherwood took out the pro pin for a magnificent shot on the 18th.
The putting competition was won jointly by Peter Clowes and Steve Miller, who both managed to get through the round with 28 putts.
On Wednesday, Isherwood and Fuller won the ambrose event with a net score of 62 from Rick Arthurson and Leigh Morison on 62.
The match committee has scheduled a par event for next Saturday.
