Tigers put up superb show

By John Stanley
IN AN exciting weekend for Upwey-Tecoma Cricket Club, the Under 13 Black team made its first finals appearance in the FTGDCA.
Pitted against the undefeated Eildon Park Cougars, the Tigers won the toss and elected to send the Cougars in but were quickly reminded of their strong batting line up.
Matthew Chambers, Tim Woods, Keenan Hinton and Will Mutschler all picked up a wicket apiece and received good support from excellent catches taken by Lewis Bullen and Nick Wood.
However, the run rate was consistently around the five per over mark, and the Cougars rounded out their 50 overs at 4/258.
On day two, the Tigers started their innings well and Hinton (28) and Daniel Watson (8) did just that with an opening partnership of 39.
Brandon Clarke (30 n.o.), Chambers (25) and Lewis Bullen (25 n.o.) then all made major contributions, lifting the Tigers’ final tally to a very respectable 6/158.
Although the total was short of the required target, coach Mark Watson was well pleased with the boys’ efforts both throughout the season and in their maiden finals appearance.
