SILVAN reasserted their position at the top and broke a 74-year run of outs at Monbulk in the process when they overpowered the Hawks in the second half to emerge convincing winners.
The Cats last victory at Moores Road was back in 1933 when they sneaked home by a solitary point against Monbulk.
When the Hawks shot out to a 31-point lead early in the second quarter, it seemed likely that they would prolong the record yet again. They started with assurance and efficiency as Dunstan, Taylor and Van Seters provided many opportunities for the Whitty brothers to open up a big lead, but that quickly evaporated when Goodlet and Haynes exploded later in the second quarter to set Silvan rolling. From there the Cats never looked back.
Monbulk had been supreme around the packs, but Moorcroft moved down field and immediately fired the Cats. Cook and Hartman were dominating the air, while Newing and Andrews joined forces to cut a swathe through the Hawks defence, despite gallant resistance from Mitchell and Fraser.
The Cats piled on 14 goals to 6 in the second half in their historic win as Monbulk searched desperately for a clear avenue to goal.
Silvan 21.9.135 d Monbulk 15.8.98.
Best: Dunstan, Fraser, Mitchell, Van Seters, Taylor.
Goals: N. Whitty 3, M. Whitty, Langworthy 2.
Reserves
SILVAN had been pressing for a finals spot, but hit a proverbial brick wall in a rampant Monbulk who were intent on their chase of top position.
The Hawks set about their task with methodical precision, inexorably compiling a telling total. They had many avenues to goal against the undermanned Cats, with young Shaun Lucas and Brooks bagging seven each, while the athletic youngsters in Klep and Wright ran amok on the slippery ground to deny Silvan oxygen around the packs as Monbulk cruised to a thumping victory.
Monbulk 26.12.168 d Silvan 2.4.16.
Best: Klep, Wright, Lucas, T. Seamer, O’Niell-Akker.
Goals: Brooks, Lucas 7, Arnott, Broekhof 3, Mitchell, Fraser 2.

The fledgling Hawks have blossomed under coach Simon Creed and a developing into a committed and systematic force.
