IT was full steam ahead for Weedbuster Week at Emerald Primary School, with Puffing Billy lending a hand.
Students on 6 September made their annual trek to Emerald Lake Park to pull out weeds with Friends of Emerald Lake Park.
“Melbourne Water has always provided a barbecue lunch for us cooked up by Bill and Heather from the Friends group, and this year Puffing Billy got on board and provided free transport for us all to get from Emerald to Lakeside and back,” teacher Leigh Johnson said.
Students rolled up their sleeves, donned their gloves and attacked the cestrum and forget-me-nots with gusto.
“It was very pleasing to see the boys and girls so keen to clear out the weeds again – this is the sixth year in a row,” organiser Sheila Hampson from the Friends group said.
After lunch the Grade 3 and 4 students played on the equipment and boarded Puffing Billy for the short trip home.
“It was fun helping the environment,” student Corey said.
