A TWO car crash on Burwood Highway in Upwey caused traffic mayhem last Tuesday evening after firefighters were forced to close the road to mop up fuel leaks.
Upwey fire brigade captain Paul Mather said the incident, between Mt Dandenong Tourist Road and Hughes Street, happened about 4.30pm and traffic had to be redirected.
“It was gridlock for a while,” he said.
“There were minor injuries to both drivers but it just happened on the wrong road at the wrong time of the day.”
Mr Mather said the road was closed for about 40 minutes while firefighters worked to mop up the fuel leak which they completed after an hour.
Five trucks including crews from Upper Ferntree Gully were present.
