A PATHWAY will be completed in the coming months, bridging together Belgrave and Kallista saving pedestrians unnecessary danger form cars and saving local vegetation.
Works started recently on a pathway that will connect the footbath on Monbulk Road in Belgrave to the Dandenong Ranges National Park which runs through to Kallista.
Previously, those wishing to make their way into the national park would have to cross Monbulk Road, walk a short distance and cross again, dodging traffic coming around a blind corner.
Lyster Ward Councillor Samantha Dunn said that the construction has been a well-thought-out process to protect the environment and benefit pedestrians travelling on the path.
“It took a while in terms of getting the right design to make sure we didn’t have to remove too many trees,” she said.
“The only ones we had to remove were weeds, so you’ve got to be happy about that.
“We’re doing a hand-trenched boardwalk instead and there’s already been a positive response.”
When the boardwalk is completed, travellers will be able to make a seamless trip from Belgrave through to Kallista by bike or walking without problems from traffic.
“The boardwalk is better and safer,” Cr Dunn said.
“It formalises the trip and keeps people on the same side of the road.”
Cr Dunn said she wasn’t sure when the pathway would be completed, but works are currently underway.
