A DRIVER has had a lucky escape after a collision in Mount Evelyn last Wednesday tore up his car and forced traffic to be diverted from Monbulk Road.
The driver, a man aged in his 40s, was travelling along Monbulk Road at around 4.15pm on Wednesday 27 February when his car left the road and was involved in a single-vehicle incident. The driver was taken to Maroondah Hospital suffering neck pain and a sprained ankle.
Police arrived immediately after the incident and diverted Monbulk-bound traffic down McKillop road to detour the crash site , as the car needed to be towed. The car’s front section badly damaged, with the driver’s side headlights and front panels destroyed.
A Mount Evelyn CFA crew attended to wash any spilt petrol or oil off of the roads before traffic resumed.
The roads were wet at the time of the crash, after 10mm of rain on Wednesday and 22mm the day before.
Rick Ventrella from Mount Evelyn CFA said the rainfall on the day had posed an increased risk for drivers.
He urged caution when driving on wet roads.
