AFTER promotion from Division 2, Belgrave appears to be the real deal after a clinical display last Saturday when it comfortably defeated the highly fancied Wandin team in round five of the Yarra Valley Mountain District ‘Community Bank’ Football Netball League.
Belgrave is now asserting its influence in Division One with a resounding win over the well-credentialed Wandin team.
Belgrave led from the outset with its most damaging quarter being the second as it booted seven goals to three and went into half time with a commanding 32-point lead, Belgrave extended that lead to 37 points at the last break and then finished in great style with a six-goals-to- two last quarter to run out big 63-point winners.
Belgrave had too many options to goal for Wandin to handle as it had 11 separate goal scorers for the day with Mitch Collins the best of them with six.

Woori Yallock v Emerald
Both teams were looking for their third win of the season and it was Emerald that held a four-point lead at the first change after a very even quarter. However it was Woori Yallock that completely controlled the rest of the game with Nicholas Tennant having a day out booting eight majors for the winners.
Woori may have only kicked three majors in the second term but it held Emerald to just two behinds. Woori led by 17 points at the half.
Woori put this game beyond doubt in the third as it was full of running as Emerald looked as thought it was on the back foot for the entire quarter, Woori extended its lead to 43 points after a six-goal-to-one quarter.
The last quarter was an even affair but Woori had already done the damage and ran out comfortable 45 point winners.

Warburton Millgrove v Mount Evelyn
It was Mount Evelyn that looked the better team early as it held a 16-point lead at quarter time.
It was a complete turnaround in the second quarter as Warby found its run and piled on seven goals to Mount Evelyn’s one to turn a 16-point deficit into a 19-point lead at the half.
The third quarter saw Mount Evelyn narrow the gap to just 11 points and at three quarter time it was anybody’s game.
Warby finished the game with a lot more run than its opponent scoring five goals to two in the last with James Iacono playing a sensational game for Warby gathering possessions all day and snagging six majors to see Warby win by 33 points.

Monbulk v Gembrook Cockatoo
A terrific come-from-behind win to Monbulk after Gembrook looked somewhat in control up to three quarter time.
Scores were tight all day with the biggest margin being 15 points at three quarter time in Gembrook’s favour.
Something sparked Monbulk into action in the last quarter as it started winning the hard ball and all of a sudden the game opened up as it booted five goals to Gembrook’s one to come from behind and win by 10 points in a hard fought out game of footy.

Upwey Tecoma v Olinda Ferny Creek
Upwey Tecoma is starting to look like the side to beat after a convincing 48-point win over Olinda.
The first half of this match was quite tight as Olinda held its own against the league leaders and at half time it was just an eight-point ball game in Upwey’s favour.
The third quarter was free flowing footy as there was 13 goals scored but it was Upwey with the upper hand scoring eight of those goals, Upwey by 27 points at three quarter time.
Upwey showed its poise in the last booting five goals to Olinda’s two to win in what was a pretty hard fought battle.

Division Two
Alexandra v Yea
Alexandra was given a small fright by Yea as it skipped out to a 19-point lead at quarter time.
Unfortunately for Yea it was all Alexandra from then on.
Alex scored five goals to just two behinds in the second quarter to go into half time with a 15-point advantage.
The second half saw Alex score a further 10 goals while, as hard as it tried, Yea could only muster the four majors for the half. Alex ended the match with a big win.

Healesville v Kinglake
This was always going to be a tough ask for Kinglake as Healesville have been red hot players.
Kinglake was competitive early but, as soon as Healesville found its feet and got control, the scoreboard started ticking over at a rapid rate.
At half time it was Healesville by 64 points.
Healesville dominated the second half even more as it piled on 16 goals to four.
Healesville is yet to be defeated and has won four out of its five games by more than 100 points, it’s hard to see who is going to beat them.

Yarra Glen v Powelltown
An amazing 45 goals scored in this game, it was free flowing end to end stuff and a mighty entertaining game.
Yarra Glen looked the goods in the first quarter booting 9.1 but Powelly stayed in touch with 4.6.
Powelltown hit back with everything in the second with a seven-goal-to-three quarter and at the half Yarra Glen held onto just a one-point lead.
The third quarter saw 12 goals scored but it was Yarra Glen with eight of them as it went to the final break with a four-goal lead.
Yarra Glen just looked the fitter in the end as it finished the game with a seven-goal-to-four final term to win by 51 points.

Seville v Yarra Junction
Seville never really looked challenged in this game despite Junction’s efforts up to half time.
Seville went to the main break with a 21-point lead but not quite in control of the game.
Seville saved its best for the third term as it hammered home eight goals to two, to race out to a 56-point lead at three quarter time.
The last quarter was reasonably even with Seville extending its lead by just the five points at the final siren which saw them win by 61 points in a high-scoring affair.

Wandin v Belgrave
After an even opening term, it was Wandin that got the break in the second, booting six goals to one to take a 37-point lead into half time.
The second half was an even affair but as hard as Belgrave tried to get back into the contest Wandin had all the answers to win by 31 points.

Woori Yallock v Emerald
Woori Yallock have been in good form so far this season but at half time of this game a minor upset was on the cards as it only held a four-point lead.
The second half however belonged all to Woori Yallock, it showed Emerald a clean pair of heals as it went on to score 11 second-half goals and hold Emerald to just three.
A dominant second half by Woori Yallock resulted in a resounding 59-point win.

This was a great game of footy that went down to the wire
It was Warby with the early break in the first quarter as it jumped out to a 19-point lead at quarter time.
Mount Evelyn then narrowed the margin to 10 points by the half-time break.
The third quarter saw Mount Evelyn with a little more polish as it booted four goals to two and took a three-point lead into the final quarter.
The last quarter was a real slog as there was only three goals scored but it was Warby with two of those three goals which saw it get up in a nail biter by three points.

Upwey Tecoma v Olinda Ferny Creek
Upwey came from behind in the last quarter to win after Olinda led for most of the day.
Olinda had their opportunities to lead by more but poor kicking cost them.
Upwey on the other hand saved their best for the last quarter as they made the most of their opportunities booting five goals to Olinda’s one, to win by 18 points in impressive last quarter fashion.

Healesville v Seville
Even though it wasn’t a high scoring game it was an enthralling game with the winner still undecided deep into the last quarter.
There was never more than a goal separating the sides for the majority of the day.
It came down to the last quarter where there was only one goal kicked, as both team’s defences were superb, but it was Healesville that broke through for that one crucial goal that saw it win by 10 points at the final siren.
