IT was all systems go for the newly expanded Lilydale Marketplace, which officially opened last Wednesday.
Early morning shoppers flooded to the centre for the grand unveiling, which was attended by centre management staff and dignitaries including Evelyn MP Christine Fyffe, Casey MP Tony Smith, Yarra Ranges Mayor Jim Child and councillors Maria McCarthy and Terry Avery.
“All I can say is, shop ‘til you drop,” Cr Child said.
Woolworths Limited director of property Ralph Kemmler said he invited the people of Lilydale to make the most of the centre’s facilities.
“I invite you to come in for your daily shop, it’s easy to come in and get out, it’s great for parking,” he said.
“I invite you to purchase things at great prices for your family at home, come here for that special gift, come here for a snack, come here for a coffee with friends or have a nice meal, or even for a nice massage.
“This is a great community facility, welcome and thank you to all those that helped make it happen.”
Centre manager Angela Babb said the expansion, a $90 million investment, was a vote of confidence in the future of the Yarra Ranges.
It now has more than 1000 car parking spaces, after an additional 580 spots were added underground.
