Comedy aims for right pitch

Acclaimed comedic play The Pitch comes to Burrinja on Sunday 27 October.Acclaimed comedic play The Pitch comes to Burrinja on Sunday 27 October.

BURRINJA’S 2007 Stand Up Comedy program will come to a hilarious climax this week as Rachel Berger hosts the final stand-up night for the year on Thursday 18 October.
Berger, who is back at Burrinja after hosting the popular afternoon show on ABC radio, will introduce a comedic one-two punch of rare talent and experience.
Wayne Deakin, a regular headliner in comedy venues across Australia and North America, will have plenty of comedic ammunition – having recently returned from performing in front of his toughest crowds yet in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His thoughtful brand of stand-up will be perfectly complemented by the hair-brained characters portrayed by the award-winning Monica Dullard.
Dullard’s chatty and relaxed style had made her a favourite with Victorian crowds, resulting in two sell-out years at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
For those with a more theatric sense of humour, the performance of acclaimed play The Pitch on Saturday 27 October may have more appeal.
The Pitch, which was voted as one of the top three plays of 2006 by the Herald Sun, tells the story of a screen writer who must pitch his idea to a panel of big-shot film producers in the space of an hour.
Returning from seasons in Ireland and Scotland, The Pitch is being billed as the most acclaimed production ever to come to the hills.
Tickets for both performances cost $25 for adults and $20 for concession card holders and Jarmbi members.
The Stand Up Comedy night begins at 8.30pm, while The Pitch hits the stage at Burrinja, 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey, at 8pm.
