Stableford smile and dine

By DENNIS FULLER

WITH the weather gods smiling expansively at Emerald Golf Club last Saturday, stableford was dished up for those who wished to dine.
And smiling broadly was Peter Clowes (17) who came in with 40 stableford points.
After an anxious wait and many furrowed brows it was declared that his 40 points was better than Dennis Fuller’s (13) when the countback system was run across the cards.
So Clowes was the top in B Grade while Fuller pocketed the consolation prize by winning A Grade.
Of the great unwashed, Leigh Morison continued a rich vein of form to come in with 38 as did Ken Hill.
Conrad Whitlock had a break from driving his Targa Ferrari around the Grand Prix track to card 37 while Kameron Geeves played to his handicap with 36 points.
The winners of the Stockdale and Leggo nearest the pins were Dave Yates on the fourth, Graham White on the seventh, Ken Hill the 12th, Finn White the 13th and Allan Ecclestone showed his prodigious class by winning the pro pin dinero on the 18th.
The ladies event became a one horse race when Petunia Jones gave the others a real hammering with only Brianna McCoy ending within shouting distance.
On Wednesday the Overly Fabricated Golfers (OFG) turned up for the weekly dose of OFG golf using OFG handicaps.
It was a stableford event with generous putting additions that inflated most scores.
In the end it was impossible to separate Moss Fuller (21) and Peter Clowes (18) when they both amassed 47 points.
Ken Hill was unlucky on 46 as was Mike Litchfield with 44.
The OFG Pennant crew headed off to play Easter Sward on its patch and went within an ace of pulling off a marvellous win.
They went down by one point with John Piggott winning one up, Leigh Morison won 5/3, Peter Clowes finished square while Bob Kennedy went down 3/2, Con Whitlock lost 2/1 and Ken Hill lost 5/4.
This week the play is at Centenary Park at Emerald.
Next Saturday at Emerald Golf Club there is a par competition followed on Sunday with the first round of the handicap pennant when the locals are at home to Wellington Links.
