IT’S all thing science at Upwey Primary School with staff and students celebrating Education Week through science activities.
As part of the week, students and teachers hosted a special visitors’ afternoon last Monday with grandparents and other relatives invited to share in classroom experiences with interesting science experiments.
Science teacher Ben Gallaher said the school celebrates Education Week each year which often has a focus on maths or literacy.
“We have a few parents that are scientists so they came up with the idea of having a science themed week,” he said.
“We thought of some different activities to be completed in rotations when the special people come and we have had a different activity in each class.
“It’s been really great.”
Jai’s grandmother Kay Goodall said she loved being able to come to see all the new things the children have learned.
“It’s such a different way to learn to how we did back when I was at school,” she said.
“The new and inventive ideas that the teachers come up with to keep the kids interested and focused is just wonderful to see.”
Mr Gallaher said the school also hosted an evening at the school last Tuesday so the community could enjoy the special science activities, too.
“These events are involving the community and letting them know that we are still here even though we are a smaller school in the community,” he said.
“We are still alive and still being able to cater for a wide variety of the curriculum.”
