Tigers fall short of their target

INDIVIDUAL, rather than team efforts, were the order of the day for Upwey-Tecoma’s junior cricketers in Round 9 of Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association action.
Taylor Jones (37), Alex Kelly (30 not out) and James Heron (28) did their best in the Under 15/2A to chase Eildon Park’s 213 but some excellent fielding and tight bowling restricted the home team to 6/150.
Similarly, Jayden Brown (54 n.o.) and Keenan Hinton (23) put up a brave fight against Knoxfield in the U15/1 but batting one short due to an injury meant 194 for victory was just out of reach.
Chasing 219, the U17/1 XI had a day to forget, bundled out for just 89.
Ben Wood backed up his economical bowling from the previous week with the top score of 19.
The U13/1 paid the price for an unusually low total of 112 as Mulgrave amassed 158 in reply.
Jordan Tailby (2/14) and Harry Ymer (2/21) returned the best figures.
Although falling short by 40 runs, the U13/2 XI stuck to their task well with Jackson Waters (18) and John Geddes (18) continuing their fine form this season.
To Upwey-Tecoma’s credit, they responded well when asked to bowl again, dismissing UFTG for 112.
Aaron Cross (3/5), John Geddes (3/10) and Mason Kirby (1/8) made the major contributions.
