THE commencement of Round 10 sees leading teams the Monbulk and Rowville Hawks battle it out for prime position on the Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association ladder at the Monbulk Reserve.
Batting first, Monbulk compiled 199 on a fast outfield with lower order batsman Jay Colee top scoring with 61.
Evergreen left-arm fast bowler Craig Arnell was in the results again with 4/49.
Monbulk are taking on all before them after winning promotion to the Knox Tavern Cup last season, however, they will need to bowl a tidy line next week to disrupt Rowville’s premiership charge.
Nearly all of the Upwey batsmen got a start against Johnson Park with Steve Gannell and Mick Hewitt top scoring at Fair Park Reserve.
The Tigers posted 182 and possibly should have reach 250 plus, however, off-spinner Dulip Samaraweera had other ideas with 3/27 from 19 overs.
The Sharks were 16 without loss at stumps and should consolidate their position in the four.
Trent Pitts and Danny Pearce both scored half centuries for St John’s Tecoma out of a total of 172 against The Basin, who in reply are in strife at 6/90.
The unstoppable Mark Hardy (4/33) will be the key to this game.
Mountain Gate president, Chris Harris led from the front with a defiant 59 in their clash with Ferntree Gully.
The Gators will attempt to defend 185 next week after bowlers Mark Butters, Andrew Field and Michael Topp shared the wickets.
Sixteen-year-old fast bowler Topp is a rising star and is one for the spectators to keep an eye on.
Eildon Park had batting practice ending the day at 8/283 against bottom side Knoxfield.
Opener Cody Morris is in good form with 78 combining with Feaver Medallist Shane Cosstick who fell 10 runs short of his ton.
In the final game Belgrave got out of jail against Upper Gully with 8/201 after being 6/90.
