Carnell at the helm

AFTER a busy off season, the Belgrave Cricket Club is looking forward to commencing play in the first week of October.
The ever-resilient Ben Carnell has replaced the departing Leigh Newey as 1st XI captain.
The club also welcomes 22-year-old Sri Lankan import, Rukshan Weerasinghe, a batting all-rounder with two first class centuries to his name.
In addition to Rukshan, former St Johns Tecoma keeper/batsman Matt Johnson will venture up the hill, as will the returning Ryan Guest.
They are very confident that these players will add some class to Belgrave’s pursuit of the Norm Reeves Shield.
But it’s not just about the seniors, the club is also looking forward to the junior cricket season.
This year they are adding the T20 Blast to the junior program.
They have also entered an U10s and U12s side in season 2014/15 and have started training on Sunday mornings from 10am at Belgrave Reserve.
Fees are very competitive with the In2cricket and T20 Blast programs costing just $40, while the U10s and U12s teams cost $60. For the latter two, players will receive their own playing shirt with their name and number on the back.
