The 39 Steps to fun and thrills

By JESSE GRAHAM

HITCHCOCK fans will have a comedic feast tonight and tomorrow, as a play based on one of his films hits the stage at Burrinja.
The 39 Steps is a spy thriller comedy, based on the 1935 Hitchcock film and novel by John Buchan, with over 100 characters being portrayed by only four actors.
The story follows hero, Richard Hannay, who meets a mysterious woman who, in turn, unveils a plot to steal military secrets, before she is found murdered.
Pursued by police and international spies, Hannay has to race to solve the mystery, with death-defying escapes and a heart-pounding – and side-splitting – story unfolding on the stage.
One of the actors performing The 39 Steps, Michael Linder, said the show was family friendly and bound to amuse as the cast change actors – and even genders – live on stage.
He said he was excited to be coming to Burrinja to perform, and to meet members of the audience after the show finished.
The 39 Steps will be performed tonight, Wednesday 8 October, from 8pm, and Thursday 9 October from 11am at Burrinja, on the corner of Glenfern Road and Matson Drive, in Upwey.
Tickets are $26 for adults, $22 for concession holders, and $17 for the matinee performance.
