TWO of the hills biggest losers are dropping their weight and enjoying exercising again with the help of Curves fitness centre in Belgrave.
Kaye Gray of Monbulk and Robyn Shepperd of Belgrave Heights said that the women’s only health centre had become a lifesaver.
Between the two of them the pair have lost a massive 33.2 kilograms in just six months.
For Kaye, joining Curves had changed her life, losing 61.5 cm and 17.7 kilograms since joining the gym in October last year.
She is now in her second round of Curves six-week solution program.
The program is aimed at raising members’ metabolic rate while giving women a healthy eating plan.
Melinda Simcoe of Curves said the program was designed to give women the chance to learn correct and healthy eating habits not just during their weight loss but to carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Kaye said she joined Curves because of the threat of diabetes that was hanging over her head.
“There is a history of diabetes in my family and I didn’t want to go through that so I joined Curves to try and lose some weight and reduce the risks,” she said.
Kaye said unlike other health centre Curves, didn’t make her feel uncomfortable or conscious of her weight issues but that it was a place where she could workout without being intimidated by other people.
“You just come in and work out at your own pace – it’s great,” she said.
Kaye said losing the weight had given her more energy for life.
“It’s like I have been given back my life,” she said.
For Robyn, joining curves has been all about getting back into an exercise regime.
Since starting at the gym in September she has lost 15.5 kilograms but says she wants to lose at least another 15.
Robyn said she can now keep up with her family during bike riding and walking trips.
She said Curves was a fantastic and friendly environment, which inspired women to exercise more.
The program at Curves is centred on a gym circuit and healthy eating program.
Each member is encouraged to do a half-an-hour circuit workout at least three times a week.
Ms Simcoe said the program was available for all ages and is a fantastic way for women to get into shape.
Curves is open six days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6am to 11am and 2pm to 7pm.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays it is open from 7am to 11am and 2pm to 8pm and from 7.30am to noon on Saturdays.
