NINETEEN of Monbulk’s top volleyballers will play in the State championships this year.
The Monbulk College students are now training for the championship later this year.
Head coach Craig Smith said this year was the biggest contingent of players that had ever made the state teams.
The students have won spots on various different state teams ranging from under 15, 17, and 19 to 21s.
Smith said the players on the under 15 side are now in training for a tournament in Albury next month.
Meanwhile, the students in the under 17, 19 and 21 sides are preparing for a super tournament in July.
The super tournament will be held at the Dandenong Basketball and Netball Stadium for the state championships.
Smith said the tournament was a great opportunity for the players to go up against some of the best players from other states.
But he said the ultimate goal was for Victoria to win the President’s Cup and be named the best state.
“This is ultimately what the players are working towards but it’s also part of the selection process for the Australian junior team,” Smith said.
Smith said it was amazing to have so many of Monbulk’s top up and comers in the state sides but that it was also a great reward for all their hard work and dedication.
“Many kids in the program give up their weekends, mornings and afternoons for the game,” he said.
These 19 star volleyballers are now training for the up coming tournaments that could win them a spot on the Australian squad.
