New Paige in art

By KATHRYN BERMINGHAM

IN HER art, Paige Moisis finds inspiration close to home.
The 18-year-old Upwey resident had her Year 12 Studio Art folio selected for the 2015 VCE Creative Showcase, an exhibition of the best work from last year’s graduating class.
The setting for her series of award-winning photographs is Belgrave’s Cameo Cinema, where she has worked for the past three years.
“The series of photographs I captured in cinema are generally based on capturing atmosphere, time and place. I concentrated on creating images that make the viewer feel part of the moment.”
Paige completed her VCE last year at Upwey High School, where she chose studio art as a subject. A challenging subject with a big workload, Paige’s passion shone through in her final piece.
She says a major influence in her art is her Mum, who is an art teacher and always encourages her to “look outside the square” when taking photographs. She first chose photography as a Year 9 elective and never looked back.
“I distinctly remember the first time I worked in the darkroom to process film, I was instantly hooked and fascinated by the process of developing an image.”
Paige is excited for what this year will bring, and plans to travel to broaden her photography portfolio.
“I’d love to build on my photography overseas, exploring different cultures and people.
“Traveling is an important goal as I feel it will enrich me with new ideas and understandings.”
The VCE Creative Showcase will run in the Jarmbi Gallery at Burrinja Cultural Centre from 30 January to 22 February.
