PEOPLE power has brought about improved road safety at a Mount Evelyn intersection.
On Friday 12 February, MP for Evelyn Christine Fyffe tabled a community petition calling for improvements to a Mount Evelyn intersection.
A fatality at a bend near the Monbulk Road and Hunter Road intersection left many in the area concerned about safety.
An 18-year-old female driver was killed when her car collided with a tree on the road in November 2013.
Ms Fyffe said she received a positive response to the petition.
“I am pleased to advise that I have received a response from the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, stating that VicRoads have reviewed the fatal crash from a road engineering perspective and found changes are necessary,” she said.
“Improvements will be made to the road signage and existing guide posts, with the treatments expected to be delivered by June 2015.”
“Until then I urge people using the stretch of road to exercise caution and drive responsibly to avoid another accident.”
She went on to congratulate the local community for their initiative in fixing the local issue.
“The people of Mount Evelyn have shown that if you really care about an issue, by getting others involved you can have an impact.”
