BREAKING into the entertainment industry is one step closer for 12 hills up and comers.
This comes as the Shire of Yarra Ranges announced a new events promotion committee for the Belgrave, Upwey and Monbulk areas.
The committee, called Hilltop Sounds, is planning a number of events for youths in the Dandenongs this year.
The group will play a key role in organising music and cultural events for young people in the area.
Shire youth services officer Martin Fiddler said that Hilltop Sounds was excited about its premier event which will be held later this month.
Mr Fiddler said the group was working hard to put together the event, which is titled Amplified.
The night held on Friday 30 May will feature three Melbourne bands including Forgiven Rival, Best Before and San Salvador, as well as some local talent such as Sinking Sea and Blinded by Desire.
Hilltop Sounds is now responsible for identifying the types of events that interest young people in the area want and organise them with the help of the shire’s youth services team.
Mr Fiddler said the group was enjoying being a close knit team and was already gaining experience in event management.
“One member said he now wants to pursue a career in event management because he is enjoying being part of Hilltop Sounds so much,” he said.
Amplified will be held at the Monbulk Community Centre on Friday 30 May from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
Tickets cost $10 and will be available at the door on the night.
