Dress up for schools’ out

SCHOOL is out for a crazy cast of superheroes, crossdressers, cheerleaders and mascots, after local year 12 students celebrated the end of their compulsory schooling last week.
Monbulk and Emerald Secondary College students last week joined thousands of year 12s across the state celebrating their last days of school.
Students put their imaginations to the test, most donning costumes for their last day of school.
At Ferntree Gully College, year 12 students were treated to an early breakfast and allowed to run the school’s morning assembly.
Students wore costumes ranging from Carmen Miranda lookalikes through to KISS legend Gene Simmons, complete with extralong tongue.
St Josephs College in Ferntree Gully and Upwey High also celebrated the departure of their year 12 students.
Students across the colleges this year approached the day as one of celebration, forgoing any mischief.
Monbulk principal Pam Glover said it was a celebration of the completion of many years of schooling.
She said the day was good for not only the students, but the teachers as well.
“It was a day for the students to be recognised.
“It also celebrated the relationship between the year 12s and their teachers,” Ms Glover said.
Emerald principal Wayne Burgess said this year an agreement was made with students, to focus on festivities.
This was to replace the traditional ‘muck up day’ of spraying shaving cream, putting cling wrap on the toilets and making a general mess of the school.
Mr Burgess said the students had retained their agreement and created a special assembly for the whole school to join in the fun and laughter of their last day.
