Curtain lifts on $181,000 extension

A FERNTREE Gully theatre company last week unveiled a $181,000 extension to its arts centre.
The 1812 Theatre Company used a Federal Government grant to amalgamate its two buildings into one, along Rose Street, Ferntree Gully.
Known as the bakery1812 theatre, the group’s new centre used to be a factory and bakery, and now accommodates an intimate performance area and extra space for community groups.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said the money, from the Regional Partnerships program, also allowed for a shared foyer, toilet and kitchen to be built.
“The new space will enable a children’s and youth theatre group to be established, as well as provide a muchneeded display and performance space for Knox Arts Council,” he said.
