STUDENTS at Macclesfield and Monbulk primary schools are experiencing science with the CSIRO Education’s Lab-On-Legs program.
The program consists of hands-on workshops.
Topics in the program include reaction and change, toy science and exploring robotics.
Primary classes participated in the Starlab activity last Thursday. Students were able to climb in to a portable planetarium and learn about the galaxy.
They learned about the moon’s phases and the Earth’s rotating pattern.
Macclesfield primary has participated in the Electricity and Magnetism workshop.
Teacher Diane Ashcroft said: “Bringing the scientists into the classroom gets the children thinking about the wider significance of science and consolidates a lot of the teaching we do throughout the year.”
CSIRO facilitator Sean Elliot wants to maintain the children’s enthusiasm.
“It’s motivating for the children to experience people and things that are new to them,” he said.
