Jillian Finch describes her Jillian Finch describes her

A DANDENONG Ranges artist will showcase her work in an upcoming exhibition in Kallista.
Jillian Finch has collaborated with friends to create what she calls a ‘journey from limitation to freedom,’ named Boundaries and Borders.
The works combine textile art and creative symbolism in the forms of circles, squares and spirals together with more advanced images of different countries and populations.
“Symbols have such a universal theme,” she said.
Ms Finch is interested in showing how boundaries and borders can unravel and evolve into new forms, placing particular focus on the spiral.
“The pattern of the spiral opens out whereas the square defines the boundaries and gives structure,” she said. The artist and teacher describes the process she used to create the works as “organic.”
Many of the materials used in the exhibition, among them silk leaf, copper paper and cloth from Europe and Asia, and others from the Middle East, continue this theme.
Ms Finch attributes her inspiration to her travels in these continents, along with the vibrant colours provided by the landscape of Western Australia.
Jillian Finch’s Boundaries and Borders is showing at the Round About Thyme Gallery and Nursery Café, 74 Monbulk Road, Kallista, from 7 June to the 4 July.
