A NIGHT of fun and laughter is set to be held at the Belgrave South Community Centre on the weekend.
Local comedian Terry North is organising a comedy night to help raise money for the Belgrave South fire brigade.
Mr North said he was hoping the comedy night would outshine last year’s performance that saw $1200 raised for the CFA.
“It was an excellent night last year. We had about 89 people, but we’re hoping for more like 120 this time,” he said.
Mr North and his comic pals are hoping for an even bigger response when they take the stage at the Belgrave South Community Centre, Gilmore Court, Belgrave South on Saturday, 5 November at 7pm.
Six comedians will entertain local residents on Saturday including Dave County who is back by popular demand. Also taking the stage will be three comedians who Mr North tours with for Camp Quality, and the musical mimic Lil FX.
Belgrave South volunteer firefighter Peter Linley said the money from the comedy night would go toward helping the unit raise money for a new truck.
Mr Linley said a new truck would cost somewhere in the vicinity of $100,000, with the CFA paying for part of the truck, but that the unit had to make up the rest through fundraising. Mr North said that laughing was good for everyone and that it might even save people’s lives.
“Anyone who thinks their house might burn down and wants the CFA to save them, come along otherwise they might just drive past. Seriously, everyone should support the local CFA because we certainly do need them,” Mr North said.
Tickets for the night are $20 per person and anyone interested in a night of laughter should contact Lynne to make a booking on 9754 8221.
