HILLS community groups last week received $96,000 in grants from Bendigo Bank.
Tecoma Primary School, Selby CFA, Kallista Kindergarten and Upwey-Tecoma Bowls Club were among the grant recipients in the eighth annual Upwey and District Community Bank Group and Community Enterprise Foundation funding initiative.
The grants, presented at Upwey Fire Brigade Hall on Tuesday 22 July, assist community groups to carry out work to benefit the community.
Dandenong Ranges Music Council (DRMC) received $1000 towards their annual Bill Borthwick Young Musicians Encouragement Prize.
DRMC’s Tracey Hayllar said the prizemoney awarded to up and coming musicians in the Dandenongs was often used for further study, travel and upgrading instruments.
Emerald palliative care organisation Fernlea House has received support through the grant program since 2002.
This year Fernlea received $2000, which will be used to purchase medical equipment.
“I am amazed by the support the community bank has shown us,” nurse manager Helen Pike said.
