Police responded to the report of an alleged assault in Kalorama last week which saw three cyclists verbally abused and assaulted by a chainsaw wielding man.
It is understood that three mountain cyclists were riding their bikes along Barbers Road when they were approached by a man with a dog on Wednesday 19 April about 6.30pm.
The cyclists, aged 29, 32 and 33 have reported they were verbally abused by the man, who then assaulted two of them with a pole.
One cyclist was bitten by the dog and sustained injuries.
The man then left and returned a short time later with a running chainsaw.
The cyclists left scene and contacted police.
The two cyclists who were injured attended hospital later that evening to have their injuries checked.
One of the bikes was badly damaged during the incident and is considered a complete write-off.
Belgrave Police are investigating and it is understood that the man involved has been identified.
A warning about the ‘violent assault’ was posted on the Yarra Ranges Mountain Bikers Community Facebook page, urging riders to not engage and contact police if “anyone approaches you or provokes you out on your rides”.
