FAMILY fun, which promotes a safety message, is the theme of Montrose Fire Brigade’s annual open day on Sunday 12 October.
Little Lex, the mini fire-fighting helicopter, will entertain and educate kids with helicopter sounds and simulated radio traffic.
A gazebo that fills with fake smoke will help to teach kids what to do in a fire.
“It shows you how the smoke starts at the top and works its way down,” Brigade Support Officer Lynne Ward said.
“That’s why you need to get down low and go, go, go.”
Toy firetruck prizes will be given for colouring and jellybean counting competitions. Visitors can check out a working fire truck and have brigade members answer their fire safety questions.
Displays will highlight home fire safety and LPG gas dangers.
There will be craft activities, badge making and volunteer recruitment information.
Proceeds from a raffle will be donated to charity.
A sausage sizzle and refreshments will be available.
Festivities kick off at Montrose Fire Station, 877-879 Mt Dandenong Road at 9am and will conclude at 4pm.
