AS the race to the council polls heats up, claims of foul play have been aired.
This follows a how to vote card that was mailed out to residents with the wrong candidate information.
Shire of Yarra Ranges incumbent, Noel Cliff has been under fire this week after his how to vote card was released.
The card had been printed with incorrect ballot information.
It was printed with vote 1 for Noel Cliff, 2 for Betts, 3 for Ferguson and 4 for Neal.
However, Neal is not a candidate.
It should have read vote 4 for Lee, and Cr Cliff claims it was all an honest mistake.
“I’m just out there trying to sell myself and I pulled it from the mail as soon as we discovered the mistake,” he said.
Cr Cliff admitted he was unsure how such a mistake could have been made.
“I’m sorry this happened… we all looked at the cards before they went to print and I don’t know how we didn’t pick it up,” he said.
Rodney Lee, the candidate affected by the printing debacle said it was disappointing to see something like this happening so close to the polls.
He said it was hard to believe Cr Cliff had got it so wrong.
Mr Lee is now urging residents to vote using the official ballot paper information.
“There was no political scheming or agenda…it was all just an honest mistake,” Cr Cliff said.
