HILLS residents are being warned to be prepared for another volatile fire season.
The CFA yesterday (1 December) declared the 2008 fire danger for region 13 which covers the Shire of Yarra Ranges and parts of Knox.
This comes just weeks after the Bureau of Meteorology warned that the Dandenongs would face the worst fire season in more than 15 years.
Dry conditions have also led to fewer fuel reduction burns so far this year.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood has once again called for more air support during the season.
A water-bombing helicopter has now arrived at the DSE compound in Olinda.
However, it’s due to be replaced by a Canadian model later this month.
Hills people are now being urged to think about making a plan to leave early or stay and fight.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said being prepared was vital for any hills family.
“Have a fire plan and make a decision before summer to either stay and defend or leave the area before the fire threatens,” she said.
