AUSTRALIAN’S across the nation paused for a minute’s silence on Friday, 11 November to remember soldiers who gave their lives for their country in World War I.
Remembrance Day has long since marked the day in 1918 when at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.
The day has since attained a special significant in the post war years, not only remembering those who lost their lives in WWI but all battles since then.
In Monbulk, a bigger than usual crowd gathered for the traditional Remembrance Day service to pay their respects to those who fought for their country.
Students from the Monbulk Primary School recited a poem for those soldiers, which was followed by a minute’s silence.
Monbulk MP James Merlino layed a wreath at the memorial, which was followed by members of the public laying a poppy in remembrance.
Following the service the public was invited to enjoy some morning tea.
