JOLANDA Boucher has answered a plea for extra towels for the Black Saturday fire victims.
The Macclesfield woman joined forces with Lara Van Graas to collect the towels.
This followed an urgent call for more than 500 towels from the Alexandra relief centre.
Ms Boucher then took the call to the streets of Monbulk and managed to collect more than 300 towels.
“People from Marysville were drying themselves with sheets,” she said.
“Everyone was amazing … the staff at Safeway were really good using their social club money to buy new towels for the victims.”
Ms Boucher collected a trailerload of boxes including towels, face washers and other toiletries and clothing.
But she had no way of getting goods to the relief centre.
“The roads were blocked and we weren’t allowed through,” she said.
It was then that Ms Boucher called on friend and local firefighter, Ian Hall who enlisted the Macclesfield brigade to help with the mission.
After returning from fighting the devastating fires, the volunteers didn’t hesitate to return to the area with the goods.
Macclesfield CFA Captain Sharon Merritt said it was great to see Ms Boucher and the local community getting behind those who had lost their homes. “We would like to thank everyone for all their support,” she said.
