QUILTS of all colours, shapes and sizes will keep bushfire survivors warm this winter.
This follows Karen Martin’s plea for donations on her shop’s website.
The Monbulk quilter was overwhelmed after receiving an influx of donations.
“Everyone has been amazing,” she said.
“I was really surprised we got so much donated with needles, threads and money … not everyone can afford to donate a dollar, so this is a good way quilters could help.”
Mrs Martin also called on wholesalers and pattern designers to donate goods to the annual Monbulk Community Quilt Show on Saturday.
More than 60 quilts will be on show on the weekend.
Mrs Martin said one of the quilts would be raffled off and the proceeds would be split between the bushfire survivors and the Monbulk CFA.
But the show’s not just about quilts, with a variety of community groups also holding stalls on the day.
The Monbulk Rotary will be holding a trash and treasure sale and will keep visitors’ hunger at bay with a gourmet breakfast, and the local Country Women’s Association will be selling some of its famous cakes.
Meanwhile the Scouts will cook up a sausage sizzle and the CFA ladies’ auxiliary will be selling flowers.
The first 100 people through the door of the show will receive a free showbag full of goodies.
Mrs Martin is hoping this year’s show will be bigger and better than ever before.
“Last year we raised $2500 but we hope to get a lot more this time,” she said.
The majority of the cash will be donated to the local CFA but a portion will go to the bushfire survivors.
The show will be held at St George’s Church in Main Street Monbulk from 9.30am to 3pm on Saturday 14 March.
