BELGRAVE Heights Christian School students recently donated $3500 to help India’s poorest children.
The kids presented a cheque to Gospel for Asia representative Peter Jackel following a fund-raiser in May this year.
Students sought sponsorship to take part in the Go the Extra Mile 50-kilometre walk.
The money will go towards Gospel for Asia’s Bridge of Hope centres in India.
The program rescues the country’s Dalit children from poverty through support, meals and education.
The Dalit are known as the untouchables. They are considered below India’s class system and less than human.
They generally perform the most menial and degrading jobs, are poor, deprived and cannot access education. They make up 25 per cent of India’s population.
