Get active for water survival

HILLS people are being warned to think about water safety before making a splash in their local swimming pool this summer.
Paul Sadler Swimland in Rowville is urging people to start thinking about water safety as a top priority as the weather starts to heat up.
Swimland, known in the learn-to-swim industry as the survival specialist, is hosting fun water safety activities this week to raise awareness about water safety issues.
Children who learn the Swimland way practise basic water safety and survival skills every lesson.
These swimming activities will coincide with water safety week which, according to Swimland, is an important date on the calendar and plays a key role in the Play it Safe by the Water campaign.
Wayne Pollock of Paul Sadler Swimland said water safety week was a reminder that safety skills should be developed all year round in preparation for summer.
Mr Pollock said the reward for parents teaching their children basic water safety was that they would always be familiar in an aquatic environment.
He said in the long run they would have available to them the choice of all the activities played around water such as recreational and competitive swimming, water skiing, scuba diving and surfing.
Swimland’s fun mascot Swordy is also reminding parents this week that the safest child near water is a supervised child.
