Upwey bowls club on track for season

COMPETING against Box Hill on their Alexander Avenue home ground last Saturday, the division six side of the Upwey Lawn Bowls Club had a great win which sees them on track to finish the season in the upper half of the premiership ladder.
The mixture of experienced skips and improving first year players is a credit to the selectors and coaches who have worked tirelessly with this side at getting the right team balance and as a result are now reaping the rewards.
The division three side travelled to Ashburton for the replay of the match which was washed out earlier in the season, and after a very close game all day the Ashburton side took the points with a 89-86 victory.
The two big winning rinks on the day were Ken Gray and his team with a score line of 32-11 in Division Six, which was good enough to take out the Jim’s Antennas Rink of the week award and Trevor Robertson in Division three with a 36-19 victory.
Players to impress with strong performances were Colin Benson who is revelling in his new found position of third to Trevor Robertson and Judy Walters who was also promoted to the position of third in the Andrew Walters led rink and out played her opponent for most of the match.
RESULTS
Division three: Ashburton d Upwey 89-86.
Division six: Upwey d Box Hill 103-60. Andrew Walters lost 20-21. Ken Williams lost 18-26. Robin Southern lost 12-23. Trevor Robertson won 36-19. Ken Gray won 32-11. Jim Miller won 25-18. Simon Gringhuis won 22-18. Geoff Collings won 24-13.
